Alappuzha Beach Kerela: Venice of the East
Alappuzha Beach, often referred to as the Venice of the East for its labyrinth backwaters and lagoons, is one of the most serene beaches in India. Located on the shoreline of God’s Own Country, Kerala, the Alappuzha Beach is perhaps most known for its 140 year old wooden pier that juts out majestically into the sea. The Alappuzha Beach is also the venue for the famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race, wherein snake boats featuring more than 100 oarsmen slug it out in a hard fought contest.
The Alappuzha Beach is also famous for its unique bird and animal life. The region has always been a prominent fixture in Kerala’s maritime history because of its proximity to the sea. This Kerala beach is also famous for its houseboats (referred to as Alappuzha houseboat), beaches, coir industry and marine products. Recently, the popularity of the Alappuzha Beach as an ideal tourist destination has increased by leaps and bounds and it has become one of the region’s most prominent beach vacation resorts.
